Israeli director Anat Even delves into the heart of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, revealing its consequences after the events of October 7, 2023. Shortly after the tragedy, she returns to the kibbutz Nir Oz – her home and childhood place – which had been completely destroyed. For over two years, she films the burned ruins of the kibbutz and surrounding areas transformed into battlefields, while just beyond the fence, the destruction of the Gaza Strip continues. The film portrays not only physical devastation but also the emotional effects of violence – anger, grief, dehumanization, and a sense of powerlessness in the face of mounting tragedy. Using archival materials and conversations with witnesses of the conflict, it explores the complex relations between Israel and Gaza, addressing questions of identity, memory, and responsibility. It is a critical and reflective portrait of war and its impact on human life. The film does not shy away from difficult questions or graphic images of the ongoing conflict, serving as a testimony to a world in collapse.
