For years, a family of parents and four children enjoyed a self-sufficient life on a Norwegian farm, far from the bustle of the city and in harmony with nature. An unexpected tragedy turned their lives upside down. The compassion they show one another extends to the animals, their home, and the surrounding landscape. Private photographs and home video footage woven into the film’s narrative emphasize the psychological dimension of the passage of time. The film raises the question of how to guide oneself and one’s family in times of grief. It underscores the need to accept change and find a new path in life. When you choose to live far from society, you must be prepared for the possibility of exile from paradise. The film received the Grand Prize in the International Documentary Competition at Sundance.
