Opis filmu
Frenetyczne i żywiołowe pierwsze sceny w klubie nocnym w Marrakeszu pokazują życie pełne tańce, ekspresji i wolności, w którym noc oferuje dar zapomnienia. Wszystko okraszone imponującymi zdjęciami te kluczowe sceny ustawiają przed nami scenę dla reszty filmu: Choć tego wieczoru Myriam i Evy taniec i zabawa przychodzą naturalnie, codzienność oznacza bolesne lawirowanie między zasadami społecznymi i podziałami ustanowionymi przez „męski świat” opartych na chwiejnych prawdach religijnych.
“It’s not belief that’s harmful, it’s tradition disguised as belief.” - Hanaël El Yousfi
Myriam and Eva are spending the summer together in Marseille once again, years after losing touch. Myriam was raised in a Muslim family, while Eva comes from a Jewish background. They seek to reclaim their closeness and enjoy their youth on their own terms, far from the expectations of those around them. Yet, differences that had never stood in their way before begin to exert an increasingly powerful influence on their relationship.
A tragedy shakes their families and communities, and the mounting tensions around them seep into their friendship as well. The two young women find themselves on opposite sides of a conflict, and what once united them gives way to distrust and mutual grievances. Can their bond survive a confrontation with divisions that prove to be far stronger than they had ever imagined?
The frenetic and exuberant opening scenes in a Marrakesh nightclub depict a life full of dancing, self-expression and freedom, where the night offers the gift of oblivion. Accompanied by stunning cinematography, these pivotal scenes set the stage for the rest of the film: whilst dancing and having fun come naturally to Myriam and Evy on this particular evening, everyday life involves a painful balancing act between social norms and the divisions imposed by a ‘male-dominated world’ based on shaky religious truths.
