Próbuje przekonać matkę, by pozwoliła jej kontynuować naukę.

Dla obojga koniec szkoły oznacza początek dorosłości, ale każde z nich wyobraża ją sobie inaczej. Czy uda im się znaleźć własną drogę, czy ich przyszłość zostanie wyznaczona przez miejsce, w którym się urodzili? „Poza szkołą” to intymny portret rodzeństwa stojącego na granicy dzieciństwa i dorosłości – między własnymi marzeniami a życiem, które już zaczyna wybierać za nich.

At the age of twelve, Mohammed and his younger sister Fatima have to say goodbye to school. In their mountain village, schooling ends at primary level, and further education requires a move to the city. For Mohammed, this is not a problem at first, but rather the promise of adulthood: a job, his own money and independence. He dreams of leaving Oulghazi as soon as possible and becoming the head of the family.

Fatima has a different outlook on the future. She doesn’t want to spend her life doing housework and waiting to get married. She dreams of becoming a teacher – ideally wearing a white shirt and blue jeans – and going to secondary school with her friends. She is trying to persuade her mother to let her continue her education.

For both of them, finishing school marks the beginning of adulthood, but each imagines it differently. Will they manage to find their own path, or will their future be determined by the place where they were born? “Out of School” is an intimate portrait of siblings standing on the cusp of childhood and adulthood – caught between their own dreams and a life that is already beginning to choose for them.
